lazyhead & sleepybones

September 30th, 2003 § 0

My friend Mary has written an article on sleep deprivation (quick survey required to read article, no personal info) in the Washington Post, and yours truly was interviewed for it.

I dunno if that is a good or bad thing. ^_^;;

G’head and read it. I’ll wait.

A somewhat true story of an Induhvidual

September 30th, 2003 § 0

I love this quintessential story from the latest DNRC (Dogbert’s New Ruling Class) newsletter…

“Observant DNRC members continue to send me true quotes of Induhviduals. After staring at the list for a while I realized that if I put them together they make an excellent story:”

We were sitting on our hands, twiddling our thumbs, when suddenly the door opened. It made the hair on my back stand on end. He was smoking like a fish and swearing like a stuck pig. I could tell from his shifty eyes that he might try to pull the fox over my leg.

“Do you have a pen?” he asked. “I need to make a mental note.”

I didn’t want him to stick my pen into his ear, but I also didn’t think it would be a good idea to rattle the barrel because the monkeys might shoot the fish. So I offered my pen.

“Do you seriously think I came up the river on a banana tree?” he growled before slapping the pen from my hand.

I wanted to fight him, but I already had too many hands in the fire. Still, you have to kill the stone with the bird while you can. He was slow as Moses. I kicked him where the moon don’t shine. I didn’t want to beat a dead bush, so I waited for his next move. The ball was in his camp now. He didn’t look like he had both oars in his basket, but maybe I was trying too hard to read between the tea leaves.

If you are not a member of DNRC (and I have been since 1997), join now and be a part of the elite.

This weekend, I was blessed with a lovely giftcard from CompUSA from my friend Chris. I was immediately tempted to pick up a Kensington StudioMouse Wireless, since I had fiddled (fondled?) with one at a SVMUG meeting a few months back and thought it was quite nice.

As cool as I think the new Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse are, I cannot get over the fact that the mouse is still a freakin’ one button for that price. Predictions have it that there will be a boom in Bluetooth peripherals in the coming months, similar to the following months after Apple first utilized USB.

So, alas, upon further research, the reviews of the StudioMouse seemed to be less than stellar. Sigh. But… it’s just so pretty! Oh, the plight of an Apple consumer…

As mentioned above, I expected to see more bluetooth peripherals popping up in the market. My search also resulted in discovering the Logitech MX 900, a optical bluetooth mouse, that seems to be a bit questionable if there will be OS X compatibility (set to be released on 10 October). A cheaper alternative is also the Belkin Bluetooth Optical Mouse, set to release on the 1st.

But do I really need a Bluetooth mouse? Or is it the “gee-whiz” factor? I am tempted to just pick up the Logitech MX 700 wireless mouse, which is tried and true with the Mac crowd (best. mouse. EVAR.).

Any other Mac Heads out there wanna chime in?

the trouble with birthdays

September 28th, 2003 § 0

Birthdays can be dangerous.

Especially if they bring you a copy of Simcity 4 that works beautifully on your powerbook with graphics acceleration.

Oh yeah, autumn seems to have begun… outside.

*sigh*

That is all.

cake and ice cream

September 27th, 2003 § 0

So, um yeah, today is my date of birth.

*throws confetti*

It’s gotten to the point that I don’t keep track anymore, and didn’t even realize it was coming, except for family and friends reminding me starting a couple of weeks ago.

I remember being incredibly excited about birthdays when I was a wee one… then again, aren’t we all? The toys, the cake, the ice cream, the balloons! We are one year older, and we’re getting closer to being a “big kid”! We can’t wait to get older every single year…

…Then we hit a threshold of some sort, where the confetti and balloons fade away, and the birthdays seem to come too fast. Where did the time go?

I want to wish a happy birthday as well to the fine bloggers I share this day with: Christine, Jason, Virginia, Dave, Andre, Buzz and Jonathan!

Where am I?
