I guess I’ve been somewhat timid to mention this, but I suppose I should.
I’ll be tabling for my first time at the Alternative Press Expo (commonly referred to as APE), taking up a small space at tables 348-349, graciously hosted by The Geekout & Entropy Comics. I’ll also be sharing the space with fellow geek and friend Kevin Cheng, who’ll be pimping out a graphic novel he worked on with MJ as well as reprahzentin’ Off Panel.

I’ll be showing and selling my first (real) zine entitled Slightly Irregular, which I hope to expand in the future to found photos/objects and others’ contributions. I will also probably be hawking zines & wares from Robert as well as our friend Ben Claassen (Bendependent).
Now I just have to finish production on my own stuff. Ergh. I’m sure I’ll work it out just fine.
Lots of outta town friends are gonna be here for APE and beyond, so it’s gonna be a busy next week or so. I’ve been a bit sick for the past few days, so that’s been a damper, but hopefully it’ll clear up by the time Lap-POP 2.0 comes around!
It’s a month of crazy creative geekiness. Ain’t it grand?

Min Jung alerts us of a worthy Bay Area cause. The Bindlestiff, a place for Filipino-American performing arts studio in the SOMA area.
Bindlestiff Studio is a Filipino American artistic hub that provides artists a space that nurtures artistic development. Its mission is to provide an affordable, professional, small performing arts venue where new and veteran artists can take creative–without financial–risks. Anchored by the Filipino American community and its artists, Bindlestiff Studio endeavors to educate the public about Filipino American culture and the arts through theatrical presentations, public workshops, concerts, readings, and other events. Its programming seeks to emphasize original work and experimentation with the integration of various disciplines: performance, visual and literary arts, film/video and music. As the first Filipino American Theater in the nation, Bindlestiff Studio continues to be at the vanguard through the efforts of its artists and community that supports it.
The urgency of saving the center is very high:
Bindlestiff’s future existence is in jeopardy. $11,000.00 needs to be raised by December 15th. If this doesn’t happen, there is a potential for SF’s Redevelopment Agency to pull their commitment to the construction of the future space. THIS IS A CALL TO ALL OF THE ARTISTS, PATRONS, AND ANYONE WHO’S EVER EXCHANGED ENERGY WITH THE SPACE.
Read more about it here.
I would put up a donation button here, but if you head on over to MJ’s and donate there, she is vowing to get nekkid on her blog if she raises $5K. That’s a pretty darned good perk to donating. Now, scoot!

SFGate: ‘Fair trade’ fan puts coffee on: Berkeley coffee measure gives brewers jitters
We’re not in Kansas anymore. I know I’m back in California when a local city’s ballot features a measure to regulate what is poured into their coffee cups.
Does this mean that your favorite barista (hmm, Eric?) is gonna get put behind bars for serving you that cup of Major Dickason’s Blend? Extreme cases say yes.
Farking absurd, I tell you. What happened to freedom of choice? Something as simple as our morning java will be decided upon by our government? Feh, I say… FEH on all of them!
I think that it should be a matter of educating the customer… let them be aware of what it takes to make their cup o’ coffee. What exactly is “Fair Trade” coffee? Let the consumer make the choice on his own terms.
Most of you who are loyal readers know how important my coffee is to me. They can take my travel mug when they pry it away from my cold, dead fingers, that’s for dang sure!

This is the last weekend of the Lost Spacecraft exhibit at the Chabot Space & Science Center… featuring the Liberty Bell 7 spacecraft that sunk to the bottom of the sea in 1961.
Looks to be really cool. Does anyone remember when the craft was recovered in 1999?
