sanfransocialite?

You probably wouldn’t have recognized me just a few years ago.

I’m not speaking in a physical sense, although my appearance has changed only slightly, I speak in terms of some personality changes that I have gone through in recent years.

I used to be fairly introverted… the in a sense, the typical weird, quirky and eccentric artist type. Okay, well, even more so, the weird, quirky and eccentric geek type. I was definitely more quiet, soft-spoken, and sometimes even bordered on anti-social.

I took it upon myself when I moved back to CA from HI to meet new people, going to meetups as well as attending cultural and art events. Blogs and blogging became a big driving force in my social life, introducing me to all sorts of fun and interesting people, both OL and IRL. Face to face meetings slowly replaced these mostly online interactions, until it got to the point that I was meeting people in meatspace before getting to know their blogs and other online incarnations. I kinda like it this way, because I really like people. I like meeting new people and getting to know them, getting past the acquaintance stage and feeling like I can genuinely call someone a friend.

Moving to SF was definitely a huge boost, naturally. With most of my friends living within The City, and with the amazing amount of interesting things going on, it was like a feast the day I moved in, and hasn’t really slowed down.

Of course, once can’t deny their geeky tendencies. Technology continues to be a big part of my social life, with Dodgeball playing a huge part (it works as advertised: “See your friends more”), as well as Upcoming.org for keeping up on events, Plazes for keeping up with where your OL friends are physically, and also connecting with others over SMS, IM and IRC. I’m also hopeful for the newly revamped tribe.net to contribute to the already long list of things to do in SF. All of these are useful tools that I used in my socializing here in The City.

So like that, suddenly I was strangely labeled as “the popular girl” with her own effing fan club. It’s kinda surreal, and the attention is definitely something I am *not* used to at all. My friends that are not within the circle I socialize with regularly are amazed at how many people we know. I really like how small this city is, and that I know enough people to regularly bump into them, randomly on the streets and in our favorite places.

Reaching Back

You may have noticed that the archive section of this blog has grown significantly in the past day or so. Or maybe you haven’t. Well, FINE!

I’ve decided to re-import my older blog entries into this new blog, for historical purposes. I was starting to really miss having the chronicles of my life here at my fingertips.

When I started this new blog, I was inspired by my blogs of old to have a more personal account of my life, where I have been both physically and emotionally. I was really feeling wistful for the days that I was writing for myself.

Unfortunately, I’ve seemed to have lost a chunk of comments in the re-import, but many still remain. Some weird thing happened in which some comments became entries, and I simply deleted them to avoid the headache. Well, at least my entries are all there, for the most part. I also deleted irrelevant entries, like most “site update” type entries and some memes. This clean-up continues in the next day or so, and therefore things may be a bit wonky ’round here. I guess I don’t really need to give excuses, for websites are always in a state of flux.

This is dangerous because I’ve been spending a good deal of time tonight just reading those old entries. Hmm… maybe it also doesn’t help that I had a latte and a doppio espresso at Ritual tonight. I guess that’s what I get for not really having much coffee in the past few weeks because of my illness. Perhaps I need to counteract it with my Nyquil cough syrup.

Gah.

more updates: In reading my old entries, I was totally reminded of my old moblog on Textamerica. I pulled the pictures off and am now starting to put them in Flickr. Yay for historical stuffs.

Okay, you guys. You talked me into it.

Yay!

Being at the blog meetup last night and being the only one that wasn’t writing a novel, well, kinda pushed me a bit.

Be entertained by my disorganization! Watch me flail around without a real plot or characters! See me start two days late with no idea of what I’m doing! Shake your fist at me for posting even fewer blog entries!

I figure it’ll be more fun this way. Yes, I have a sadistic idea of what “fun” can be. It’s also good for me to do to take my mind off of current events.

My novel (pun intended) concept? “Yet Another Teen Novel”. I am also taking inspiration from my hobby of Found Objects. Heck, I may even integrate a few of said objects.

My first day, I’m at 2,016 words as of this posting. I have a lot to do.

My friend Tom Bridge is a talented fellow. He’s a musician, geek (of course), network engineer, as well as a writer for the popular mac news site MacSlash. Also a lover of baseball, photography, cooking, and Technology overall, I am amazed how Tom does it all.

Last night, we met our record for bloggers at the monthly meetup! Now, if Guy was there, we woulda broken that record! Maybe next time.

And how glad were we to be back at Coffee Society? The masses rejoiced.

May I recommend the double cosmopolitan on a warm summer evening? It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up. David had a few drinks that looked mighty tasty too… which reminds me, I must try one (or two) of his local caffeine stops soon.

It was Kev‘s first meetup… it was actually an evening that he could attend, imagine that! Jon showed up for his second meetup in the South Bay… glad to see the circle growing a little!

Jim brought his color Hiptop for Mark and I to ooh and ahh at; and in turn, we moblogged a photo or two. He and Faisal showed up a wee bit fashionably late, but always welcome! We even had a passerby sit down with us and ask what all the ruckus was about! “What’s a blog?” You asked the wrong crowd! Ask Rich, he has a strong opinion on what a blog is!

Antwon brought a handful of his bumper stickers for us. I have yet to see any of the attendees from last night posting any photos of these strategically placed stickers! What’s taking you guys so long?

Elke had to depart a bit early (last bus, I assume?), but it is always a pleasure to see her. The evening ended with Jonas and Ealasaid practicing aikido in the parking lot. Street Fighter references ensued. Good times.

I love finding new and interesting blogs. I love meeting new and interesting people, too!

I guess I had heard of GeoURL before, but never really looked at it until I saw writeups on a couple of sites today. It’s really spiff! You can find blogs by location… more specifically, by your coordinates. How delightfully geeky is that?

Dang, I’m becoming dangerously close to becoming addicted to BlogShares, the fantasy blog stock market. I’ve already benefitted by finding some hiddden gems like Chocophile, among others.
