The spirit of Aloha lives on in an employee of the Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio. A hotel employee, recently named Employee of the Year, donated a kidney to one of his customers!
The gentleman was in need of a kidney transplant. He had told Jose that he had a rare blood type and this made it highly unlikely that a matching donor would be found in time.
The people of Hawai’i never cease to amaze. I miss ‘em.

If you’ve got a problem (or something that even slightly resembles a problem), there’s a support group for you, somewhere out there.
There’s even Lip Balm Anonymous, whose mission is “to stay free from lip balm and to help others achieve the same freedom.”
A sampling from their self-evaluation:
- Has the use of lip balm interfered with your job?
- Is your lip balm use causing conflict with your spouse or family?
- Do you feel depressed, guilty, or remorseful after you use lip balm?
- Do you ever wish that you had never taken that first application or hit of lip balm?
- Do you have an obsession to get lip balm when you don’t have it?
- Do you experience an anticipation high just knowing you are about to use lip balm?
- Are you absorbed with the thought of getting coated even while interacting with a friend or loved one?
- Have you begun to use lip balm while alone?
- Do your lips, nose, or other areas hurt when you avoid Lip Balm?
- Do you use larger doses of lip balm to get the same protection you once experienced?
The site started out as am honest joke, but has turned out to be a useful resource to true, real-life Bonne Bell addicts.
Excellent.

No confession thru texting
from the The Philippine Star
( via BoingBoing via Tom Bridge)
Despite advances in modern communications technology, the Catholic faithful still have to confess face-to-face with the vicars of Christ this Lenten season, Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) secretary general Hernando Coronel said yesterday.
Coronel said confessions sent via text messaging or other means of modern communication, like e-mail and fax machines, are “unacceptable.”

I wonder how the faxed confessionals work? I’m surprised that people fax ‘em, seeing that they already use email and SMS. I mean, really… FAX? How early 90′s is THAT?

Airport job insecurity: When feds take over, many Filipino screeners will be unemployed.
I find the focus of this article kinda funny. It’s true, pretty much all the security screeners at SFO are Filipino… my family has made many the off-color cracks like “nosy pilipinos, always in your business”. I know, but hey, it’s our own kind, we’re allowed, right?
But seriously, folks, I find it a little scary that there were over one thousand NON-CITIZEN security screeners working at airports around the bay area. I had no idea… that’s a LOT. I think that this is a job more suited for trained citizens that can communicate well with the people they deal with every day.
